VISUAL IDENTITY
Southwark Council / Elephant & Castle
Colour palette and illustration symbols package for a new visual identity for the Elephant & Castle area, which represents the local community and the history of the area. Part of the Elephant Recovery Project.
Whilst the logo was developed by another designer, I defined the colour palette and designed a set of symbols that can be used across web and print.
The colour palette (green, red, blue, purple and yellow) represents the large Latin American community that has been living in Elephant & Castle for a long time, and was inspired by Latin American fabrics and art.
The symbols that make up the visual identity are representations of the history of the area and the local culture: the roundabout, Heygate estate, the arches, Elephant Springs, Arepa burns and the Elephant and Castle statue outside the demolished shopping centre.
